Modernism & Post-modernism

Modernism can be defined as any cultural movement rooted in the changes in Western society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. This era was where imagesd became more real than the real.
Post-Modernism describes describes movements which both arise from, and react against or reject, trends in modernism. Its the distinction between high and low culture through the use of industrial materials and pop culture imagery.

New Coke vs. Coca Cola

Coca Cola was first establisted in 1955. The Coca Cola company grew bigger and bigger into a major corporation. The rise in popularity was due to the association of the Coa cola Brand with Santa Clause. Around the mid 1980's Coca Cola relassed a "New Coke." This new coke was a completely different flavor and design of the coke brand.

However, Sortly after its release a major uproar occurred calling for coke to return to its original formula and profits of Coca Cola declined greatly. After, Coca Cola changed back to its original formula and profits skyrocked

TOday, Coca Cola has came out with new advertising strategies to help with proifits. Coke has put Six Flags cupons on their cans to help saled. Additionally, Coke has came out with different varieties of Coca Cola, such as Diet Coke, cherry coke, C2, with still producing its original formula.

New Ad Presented

Sobe Thriller Ad
This ad is a simple ad for Sobe Life Water. It uses the tactic of appealing to a persons historic knowledge of Michael Jacksons "Thriller" video. It make people intrested in the product because of their knowledge of the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video. I Am sure that this tactic has been used in the past but this video is really cool of the way they used the animated iguanas.

CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN ADVERTISING #3

This is an image of a pair of Adidas Superstar 35th Anniversary Run DMC shoes. Aside from a way of marketing a new pair of Adidas, this shoe reminds consumers of the impact that Run DMC had on the Adidas company. Run DMC was the most popular rap group in the early 80's. They were most well known for always wearing white shell toe Adidas at every public appearance, thus the shell toe's became part of the image of Run DMC. This image of Run DMC greatly helped Adidas become the giant company that they are today.

CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN ADVERTISING #2


This is one of the many promotional ads by Apple. It suggests consumers should "Think Differently," meaning go against the norm of people buying PCs.The image of Gandhi reinforces the idea of thinking differently. Gandhi lead a movement attempting to gain freedom from British control, and think differently about what was right rather than accepting colonialism.

CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN ADVERTISING #1

This is an ironic promotional ad by Camel cigarettes. It tries to portray Camel cigarettes as the smooth reaper, or a smoother cigarette. It is ironic because of the major health risks associated with smoking . Its like a indirect Surgeon General Warning of the risks of smoking cigarettes.

Yankee Icon

I chose to create this icon because i am a die-hard Yankee fan. I didn't have much problem creating this icon because i am fairly familiar with Photoshop. The only problem that i had was that this was very tedious dealing with every single pixel.

I Chose to use my initials in a circle that are written with animation.I chose this because it seemed to be the most logical idea and it didn't need to be elaborate at all. The only problem that i encountered was the problem when i rasterized the text i couldn't go back and move or change the text. That was the only part that frustrated me but other than that i was this project was fairly easy.

Positive or Negative effect

The First one is in a way positive because it allows people to share their thought and get different opinions about information other than only watching the news.
The Second one is definitely positive because it allows users to get information quickly just but looking at the light boards in cities or at malls.
The Third one is positive because it consolidates much of the necessary information and tool for business people into one small hand held device.
